Child Nutrition Mission
Healthy Students Today = Healthy Leaders Tomorrow

Welcome to the 2007-08 school year. We are all team players in meeting the mission of the Child Nutrition Program.

MISSION STATEMENT
The basic mission of the Fayetteville Child Nutrition Program is to meet the nutritional needs of students enrolled in the Fayetteville School District.  Help us meet our objectives:

OFFER vs. SERVE
Students are offered a variety of healthy choices. According to our Child Nutrition Agreement all children K – 12 must be allowed to make their own choices. Five food components are offered for lunch - a student may choose three, four, or all five. Four food components are offered for breakfast – a student may choose three or four.

MENUS
Menus are published weekly in local newspapers and monthly on our web site: http://www.fayar.net/admin/food/food.htm

Free/Reduced Meal Applications for Students
Free and Reduced Meal Benefit Forms are distributed to all students at the beginning of the school year. They are also given to incoming students throughout the year and are always available in the school office. We use a ‘family application’ so it is only necessary to complete one application per family.  Meal Benefits Forms are processed for all schools centrally at the Food Service Office.  For questions about the form, eligibility, or status, please call the Food Service Office at 479-684-5091.

MCS Point of Sale
The cafeterias use MCS software for Point of Sale and Meal Benefit Application processing.  We can monitor deposits, run reports to tell parents what the students are eating and much more!  Student Meal Account Numbers are generally the last five digits of his/her student “new” id number.  In the rare instance there is a duplicate, their number will be advanced to the next available number.  Meal Account Numbers are assigned at the beginning of the school year and students will have the same Meal Account Number for the entire school year.  If you work with younger grades, we appreciate your assistance in helping the students to learn their numbers.  If there is ever a question about Meal Account Numbers, contact the Cafeteria Manager.

ACCOUNT BALANCES
Parents (and staff!) can make online payments, view meal account activity online, and request low balance e-mail reminders.   < CLICK HERE > to learn more.
We need to operate in the black. Please, no charging! Keep up with account balances and send deposits to keep a positive balance.  Make checks payable to "School’s Name Cafeteria". Putting your student(s)’s name on the check is very helpful! Parents should watch for hand stamps or notices in back packs when account balances are low. Check the date of the notice – more meals may have been served since it was printed!

CATERING / FIELD TRIPS
We cater special events such as field trips, PTA/PTO activities, parties, and classroom lunch meetings. Party lunches can include "center of the plate" food choices. The PTA/PTO can add all the "party" items and decorations. Contact your school’s cafeteria manager or the Food Service Director. Ask your Cafeteria Manager for a ‘Field Trip Form’ to request box lunches.  Two weeks notice is preferred and a minimum of one week is absolutely necessary.
