Minutes of the January 18, 2006 Special Meeting

 

The meeting was convened at 12:20 PM in the Adams Leadership Center with President Steve Percival presiding.  All board members were present.

 

Proposal for Elementary Attendance Zones

Dr. New, superintendent, proposed a third option for consideration regarding the rezoning of the elementary schools.  This option includes the following points:

2006-07 school year                Use existing nine elementary zones with minor changes.

Use this year for planning with the University of Arkansas to open a lab school.

2007-08 school year                Open University Lab school using existing nine attendance zones with minor changes.

2008-09 school year                Convert to the proposed eight zone elementary zones.

                                                Year 2 of the University Lab school.

 

Dr. New noted that the district and the University of Arkansas will need to work on several issues during the 06-07 planning year.  He added that a millage increase would be necessary to provide much needed teacher salary increases.

 

Board president Steve Percival reminded board members that the enrollment distribution project will be voted on at the January 26, 2006 meeting.
