The Fayetteville School District will provide a rigorous and relevant education in which all students gain the academic and personal skills needed for lifelong learning and success.
Here are facts to consider when comparing the construction costs of high schools in Northwest Arkansas:
The new FHS will be the first and only LEED certified high in Northwest Arkansas. LEED certification does add to the cost of construction, but the benefits to the environment and the long-term savings make it worthwhile.
Construction on the new FHS will begin in 2010 and will be subject to new building standards of the Arkansas Department of Education. None of the other high schools built since 2000 were subject to the new standards.
One-third of the Rogers Heritage High School was renovation of existing structure. Foundation and building shell for this portion of the project was already in place.
The new FHS will be built on challenging terrain, and construction will occur while students are on campus. Both of these add to the cost of construction.
The plan being used for the new FHS was developed through many meetings and through the input of hundreds of Fayetteville residents. It is the plan they chose during the charette process, making it literally the people's plan.
