The Fayetteville School District will provide a rigorous and relevant education in which all students gain the academic and personal skills needed for lifelong learning and success.
Here are some facts about the current Fayetteville High School campus:
The FHS Marching Band can only practice together at Harmon Field, since the band room isn't large enough to hold the entire band.
The cafeteria at FHS only seats 325. To serve lunch to the entire student body would require five lunch periods, the first beginning at 9:30 am.
The auditorium at FHS only seats 350 (FYI: the enrollment at FHS is 1,850). The FHS Choir barely fits the stage, and the FHS Concert Band is too large.
The only space where the entire study body can assemble is the gymnasium.
The original building opened in September of 1952, and the first class to graduate was the FHS Class of 1953 with 145 graduates. (FYI: 565 students graduated in the class of 2009).
The current campus has 56 exterior doors, which creates a security issue.
When the current FHS opened in 1952 the Northwest Arkansas Times said it was "one of the finest and most advanced structures in the Southwest, a pilot plant for the rest of Arkansas and surrounding states." Sound familiar?
The FHS Choirs have held their concerts at Springdale High School's performing arts center the last couple years due to the lack of a space large enough to accommodate the choirs and the audience.
Fayetteville voters approved a tax increase in 1870 to bring the University of Arkansas to Fayetteville, outbidding other communities in the state. The returns on that investment are incalculable!
