Census 2010

Please Stand Up and Be Counted!

Your participation in the 2010 Census is extremely important to children who attend Fayetteville Public Schools -- census data helps determine how much money the district receives from state and federal sources.

The U.S. Census counts every resident in the United States, and is required by the Constitution to take place every 10 years. This data is used in apportioning seats in the U.S. House of Representatives. The census information is used to produce statistics and your answers cannot be used against you by any government agency or court.

More than $400 billion per year is allocated for projects like new hospitals, roads, and schools based on census data.

Federal law protects your identity and the information you provide to the census. Individual census records are not shared with anyone including other federal and law enforcement agencies. Census workers take an oath of nondisclosure and are sworn for life to protect the confidentiality of the data. It is against the law to disclose any of the following information: names, addresses, social security numbers, and telephone numbers.

Participation in the census isn’t just important -- it’s mandatory.

In March of 2010, census forms will be delivered to every residence in the United States and Puerto Rico. Upon receipt, answer the 10 short questions and mail the form back in the postage-paid envelope provided. If you don’t mail the form back, you may receive a visit from a census taker, who will ask the questions from the form.
