Roughnecks
By: Thomas Cochran

Travis Cody has waited for this moment ever since he became a Roughneck.  He has dreamed he would play in a state championship game and finally that dream has come true.  The roughnecks will go head-to-head with the Pineview Pelicans which promises to be a great Louisiana AA State High School Football Championship game.  The two teams met earlier in the season, and Pineview squeezed out a close one in the end when Jericho Grooms stopped a game winning two-point conversion and made a fool of Travis Cody.

Now the two teams meet again in another classic, Pineview vs. Oil Camp match-up.  Oil Camp has a better history than Pineview when the teams have collided in the past, but you can throw away the records between these two teams this year.  Since Oil Camp lost, Travis hasn't been able to sleep or eat much; he hasn't been himself.  But when the first ball is snapped Travis will be ready to play, and we'll see then if he's a winner or a loser.

This book was so enjoyable to me because I enjoy football.  The author made this story seem very realistic.  A good football book is rare and Thomas Cochran provided it.  The story told about how serious high school football can be and how much is on the line in every game.  It showed me that hard work pays off.  At times I couldn't put the book down, because I wanted to know what was going to happen next.  As I read each chapter, I began to understand the characters' lives more and more.  I would recommend this book to anyone who likes football or has a thirst for understanding the game.
