The
Hobbit
By J.R.R. Tolkien
| What
defines a great book? If a good plot, well rounded
characters, great details, and exciting action defines a
great book, then I'd put The Hobbit in that
category. The characters in the book are a group of dwarves, a hobbit, and a wizard. This group goes on an adventure to try and win back a hoard of gold and jewels that is protected by a dragon. And the whole story is of the group's trip to the dragon's lair and the troubles they encounter. The plot is more complex than just a journey; the book has a lot of details and information in that journey to satisfy anyone. About two thirds of the book is about the group's journey to the dragon's lair, which is located inside a mountain. Now the dragon steals a hoard of jewels from an old dwarf king's village, and the grandson of that king wants those riches back, and is accompaning the other characters. The main character is Bilbo, a hobbit, who is the outcast at first but in the end becomes a leader. In the end a war breaks out because of all the jealousy for the gold. If you want to know more, you're just going to have to read the book, which I advise to do. So, if you ask me if this book is worth reading, I'd definitely say yes. It's not just a cheesy fantasy story that only nerds read. Every book needs to have great details and excitement to keep the reader interested, which is exactly what this book did for me. I was a little skeptical at first about the book, but once I started reading I began to get more interested. No one should pass this book up; it's a very well-written book. |
