The inventory was unchanged from last year at the $1 level. All machines are multi denom with TITO. On the 3rd Fl all of the machines at the $1 level are FP 9/6 JOB and 8/5 BP, ( I'm not sure about NSU) with the exception of the bar which is short pay. The (4) 3/5 machines are still there. Both Grands on the coast use the same point formula for VP, which is $10 coin in per point. Cash back for VP is .33% at both places. So far they are not talking about changing over to Harrah's Rewards program. The lone 5c AA is MIA Host – Sue Forstall (works 4pm – midnite). Inventory changes/additions: Best $.25 game is BPAF (99.3%) and DBAF. This is found in bartops at the Sports Bar, and the “Tiny Bar”. The Tiny bar is upstairs near the escalator exit. It has about 7 seats. GRAND GULFPORT: This used to be my favorite casino in Biloxi, it certainly is one of the nicest. However, the AA is now gone. I did find one 5c AA machine left behind. This was full pay and I am sure a mistake. As you go up the elevator it is the machine directly in front of you in the circular bank. Here is the inventory I found: (1) AA 5c third floor. (3) 9/6 JoB 50c/$1 3/5 play third floor (3) NSUD $1 third floor. (4) NSUD $1 slants in high roller area (4) 9/6 JoB $1 slants in high roller area (6) 9/7 TDB 25c 3/5/10 play on Double Pay machines I didn't check for any BP. Cash back is still 0.33%. All the resturants range from good to excellent. Grand Gulfport has $5 10/6 DDB with 239 for SF and 5-k quads. Isle of Capri started a 4x points promo on Sundays in August. On first day, at least 3 (maybe more) royals were hit on the $5 9/6 JBs. Isle shut those 2 machines down, switched them over to 8/5s, and read the trespass act to the woman who hit 2 of the royals. They also shorted the dollar machines to what you found. Left the quarters intact. MS Gaming Commission made them take out the All Americans. MGC finally figured out that it's a positive game. AA is gone from Grand Gulfport also. Grand GP - Connection comps on the 3/5 play JOB machines were not as reported in the DB, maybe half of cashback, .15 or so. The Grand is definitely kid friendly. Stay at the Oasis hotel across from the Casino hotel. This has a resort type set-up and feel to it. As stated in other posts, the set-up of interrelated pools surrounded by a river where you can lie on a tube and be taken on a ride around the pools is one of the best I've ever seen and lots of fun. The rooms are large conformable and clean. We had a view of the pools. My daughter had fun in Kids Quest and we enjoyed the games in the arcade. Several times my daughter mentioned that it felt like we were at a resort in the Caribbean and she was right. Restaurants - The food and service in all of the restaurants was very good. They also had great views of the Gulf of Mexico. There is a gourmet seafood/Italian restaurant across from the hotel that has very good food. We thought the at $114 with appetizer and wine was pretty reasonable. It is independently owned and you cannot use points to comp. Gambling - Every VP machine we saw was multi demo and TITO. This was good because it allowed me and my wife to play next to each other. She plays .25 and I play $1. There are lots of $1 FP 9/6 JB, 8/5 BP and NSU Ducks. I played them all. All of the machines on the third floor were FP except the ones at the bar. There are 4 upright 3/5 plays in the corner 3rd fl that have FP JB and BP. The only draw back (and I don't mean to be a snob) is that they were frequently occupied by .05 players. There are also 2 Multi Strikes next to the 3/5 plays. The best play on these was .50 9/5 JOB. The BP was shorted to 6/5. As you go down the escalator to the second fl there are 3 3/5 play slant tops at the bottom of the escalator. These were frequently busy. These also had FP $1 JB and BP. There are 4 more multi strikes on the 2nd fl. 2 uprights and 2 slant tops with the same pay tables as the machines on the 3rd fl. On the first fl, all of the $1 VP is short pay with the exception of the machines in the high limit room and in the room directly across from the high limit room. The high limit room has 5 FP $5, $10, $25 JB, BP slant tops by the door. In the corner there are 2 upright $1, $2, $5 , $10 FP single line and 2 3/5 plays that are shorted to 8/5 for JB but FP BP. HOTEL: The Grand Gulfport actually has two hotels, one by the casino and the other across the road (connected by a covered walkway). The one across the road ("The Oasis") is a newer hotel and the rooms show it. They are really nice, quite large and with all the amenities. They compare well with the rooms at Caesars LV. The rooms at the casino hotel are not quite as nice but still very good, just a little old around the edges. The casino hotel is directly on the beach. The pool complex at the Oasis hotel is really top knotch. There are multiple pools and they are connected by a "river" which loops in and out of the pool structure. There are "tubes" provided for floating on the river and there is also a waterfall pool. This is one of the best pools I have seen, particulary if you have kids. In fact this hotel was full of families with young and not so young kids. This is either great if you have kids, or not so great if you don't. The Grand is also directly on the beach (another kid friendly feature). They have tennis courts with lights and a sand volley ball court. KIDS QUEST: Not only does the Grand have the great pool for the kids but they have two video Arcades and a Kids Quest. This looks after children from 6 weeks to 12 years. We checked it out and it was very well run. I would highly recommend this hotel for families (our first is on the way). Cost is $6 per hour which can be comped. RESTUARANTS: They have a New Orleans Bisto which is open 24 hours and serves very good food. There is also a 50's burger/sandwhich joint, a buffet of course, plus a seafood restuarant with sushi bar. Finally there is a Steak house for an upscale night and a coffee shop. Comps are good at all places. All resturants but the Steakhouse have full windows which offer a view of the marina and the ocean. This makes it feel like you are eating in a real restuarant and not in a casino. CASINO: This is one of the few casino's that I have seen that has windows. There are ocean views all around. We found this made the place very open and comfortable for gambling. There was a low smoke factor and many groups of machines were setup as non-smoking. They have many "self comp" terminals and I had no problem using my Vegas Hilton card at any of them. They also have a "self serve" drink station with Pepsi products. We find this a real plus (get drinks when you want and save on tips). VIDEO POKER: Of course all of the above is not worth much if the games aren't up to much. As quarter players we focused on the AA machines. There were (6) 25c machines and (8) 5c machines (surely one of the best 5c plays around). They also had 9/7/5 DB at 25c and 8/5 JOB Trade Up at 25c for those interested in that. At 50c they had 9/6 JOB at single, triple and five lines. They also had 9/6 JOB at $1 in single, triple and five lines. They have $1 NSUD single line only from what we saw. Cashback & COMPS: Cashback is 0.33% for VP and .67% for slots. We found that comps accumulated at about double this rate, around 0.6% based on our calculations, although this did seem to vary (depending on the time? day?). We went in on a casino rate based on our LV Hilton play (we are C3 at the Hilton) and we only gave them about $14,000 in action over 2 full days. Based on that, they picked up the rooms but we had to use our accurred comps to cover most of the meals. SUMMARY: Very nice hotel, excellent pool complex, good restuarants, on the beach with good VP. What else do you want? Oh, we were up $300 and two stuffed toy crawfish (are you really a complete person without a stuffed crawfish toy?) I have just returned from here. the following were noted. there are about 15 machines, both slant top and upright that have 16/10 nsud on the third floor which is small and not hard to find all the games. they are singleline multigames. for $1. the other denom. are short pay. there are also two banks of 50 cent and $1. 9/6 job. and as reported there are 5, 25cent AA. I found 5/25cents AA machines on a small island on the third floor. I did not see any 5 cent machines. I might add that here they had pickem for 25cents but they were short pay. the 9/6 JOB were single line on multi game uprights. I saw no fiveplay machines. i found no other VP on the other floors. The Grand in Gulfport is a good place to stay if you have kids. It has a really excellent pool area, and of course it has a "kids quest", where I think the max. age is either 11 or 12. Note that there are 2 hotels at the Grand. The Oasis is the newer hotel and is closer to the pool area. The older hotel (don't know what it's called) is closer to the casino. At the Grand, you can find NSUD in dollar single line machines, and 9/6 JOB in dollar and 50 cent five line machines. These are multi-denomination machines with short pay games at the lower denominations. Cashback for VP is .33%. If your birthday happens to be in the same month that you visit, you can get double points on any one day. I don't have any idea how much play per day they would expect for a room or RFB. I've stayed there several times, but it has always been on a free room coupon, and not based on same day play. |
