FHS Band
Staff
BARRY HARPER
Barry
Harper has been Director of Bands at Fayetteville High School since
1994.
Previously, he was Director of Bands at Duncan High School in Duncan,
Oklahoma.
Mr. Harper received his Bachelor of Science in Music Education degree
from the
University of Arkansas and his Masters degree in percussion performance
from the
University of Oklahoma. While obtaining his graduate degree, Mr.
Harper
was a
graduate assistant in the percussion department. In 1988, Mr.
Harper
received
the ASBDA Stanbury Award for the Outstanding Young Band Director in
Oklahoma.
He was also named in the School Band and Orchestra magazine as one of
"50 Directors Who Make a Difference," representing the state of
Arkansas in 2005. Under his direction, the Fayetteville High
School Band has received
numerous
honors and awards including 10 sweepstakes awards from the Arkansas
School Band
and Orchestra Association. The F.H.S. Band has also performed at
several special
events including the 1996 Disney World Parade in Orlando, Florida and
the 2001
Hollywood Christmas Parade. In 1998, the Fayetteville High School
Band
became
the first Arkansas band to perform in the prestigious Macy’s
Thanksgiving Day
Parade in New York City. The FHS Band also marched in the 2006
Tournament of Roses Parade in Pasadena, California, and will make their
second appearance in the Macy's Thanksgiving Day Parade in 2008.
Brett Lawson is the
assistant director at Fayetteville High School. He has been a
band director with the Fayetteville School
District since 2001. He teaches beginning high brass at Holt Middle
School at Mt. Comfort,
assists with both the Concert and Symphonic Bands at Ramay Junior
High,
and conducts the Concert Band at Fayetteville High School. In
2005, Mr. Lawson was
nominated for the ASBDA Young Band Director of the Year award.
Mr.
Lawson received both his
Bachelor of Music
(1999) and Master of Music (2001)
degrees from the University of Arkansas. As a Graduate Assistant with
the
University of Arkansas Bands, he assisted with the Razorback Marching
Band, conducted the Lady Hogwild Basketball Pep Band, and co-conducted
the U of
A Concert Band. His affiliations include Phi Mu Alpha Sinfonia, Kappa
Delta Pi,
Arkansas School Band and Orchestra Association, and Arkansas
Bandmasters
Association.
LEWIS CLARK
Lewis
Clark is a 1981 graduate of the University of Arkansas with a Bachelor
of
Science in Education degree. He received his Master of Music
Education
degree
from the University of Arkansas in 1991. Mr. Clark is a member of
Phi
Beta Mu
Band Fraternity, National Band Association, and the American School
Band
Directors Association. He is also a member of the Delta Upsilon
Fraternity,
Percussive Arts Society, International Association of Rudimental
Percussionists
and the National Federation Interscholastic Music Association. He
received the
Outstanding Young Men of America Award and was a finalist for the
Outstanding
Teacher Award in 1989. Mr. Clark currently conducts clinics and
serves
as an
adjudicator throughout Arkansas, Oklahoma, and Missouri while teaching
instrumental music at Ramay Jr. High and Holt Middle School. Mr.
Clark
also
assists with the Fayetteville High School Band.
TOM
STOUT
Tom Stout
joined the Fayetteville band staff in
2003. His responsibilities include conducting the 8th
and 9th
grade bands at Woodland Junior High School and assisting with the
marching and
concert bands at Fayetteville High School. Prior to his
appointment,
Mr. Stout
was Coordinator of Instrumental Music for the Broken Arrow, Oklahoma
Public
Schools, a position he held for sixteen years. For the past
twenty nine
years,
he has been a band director at the Middle School, Intermediate High
School, and
Senior High School levels. Under his direction, the Broken Arrow
High
School
Band produced an impressive list of accomplishments,
including being named Honor Band for the OMEA Convention
three times and consistently receiving the OSSAA Sweepstakes
Award. The
Broken
Arrow High School Marching Band has been named Bands of America Grand
National
Finalist for four years and was the winner of the Sudler Shield for
Marching
Band in 1998. Mr. Stout was the 1992 Bandmaster of the Year as
named by
the
Oklahoma Bandmasters Association. He holds the Bachelor of Arts
in
Education
degree from Northeastern State College and the Masters in Music
Education from
Tulsa University.
STEVE POLLINO
Steve
Pollino is the interim assistant director at Woodland Junior High
School. He is a 2001 graduate of the University of Massachusetts at
Amherst with a Music Performance Degree in Tuba. Steve recently
finished his teacher’s licensure at the University of Arkansas.
Steve performed with the Broadway musical “Blast!” during
the 2001-2002 U.S. tour and played in the band at Disney World in 2003
before returning to college. While in school, Steve has had the
opportunity to be on the instructional staffs of each of his college
bands. Over the past several summers, Steve has worked with the U of A
Band Camp and the George N. Parks Drum Major Academy. While teaching in
Fayetteville, Steve will assist with the high school marching band, the
Woodland Junior High Bands, and teach beginners at McNair Middle
School. He will also direct the Varsity Band at Fayetteville High
School.
SCOTT VILLINES
Scott Villines joined the
Fayetteville Band staff in 2007 to teach beginners at McNair Middle
School and Holt Middle School at Mount Comfort. He will also assist
with the Fayetteville High School Band. Prior to his appointment, Scott
was Director of Bands at Rockwood Summit High School just outside of
St. Louis, Missouri. He has also been a band director at Eureka High
School in Eureka, Missouri and Northwood Junior High in North Little
Rock, Arkansas. Scott received his Bachelor’s Degree in Music
Education from the University of Arkansas in 1999. He completed his
Master’s degree from the University of Arkansas in 2002. While
working on his graduate degree, Scott served as a graduate assistant in
the University of Arkansas Band Department. Under his direction, the
Rockwood Summit Band received numerous honors and awards.
RICHARD WISEMAN
Richard Wiseman
joined the Fayetteville band staff
in 2005,
as a woodwind specialist teaching beginners at McNair and Holt Middle
Schools. Mr. Wiseman previously worked
during the 2004 school year teaching music class at McNair Middle
School,
establishing the guitar program. Mr.
Wiseman was the band director at Lakewood Junior High in North Little
Rock for
10 years, and worked as an administrator
in the North Little Rock Public Schools. Mr.
Wiseman has worked as a professional musician for 35
years, and has a Bachelor’s degree in
Music Education from Arkansas Tech University, and a Master’s degree in
Administration from the University of Arkansas.
