PSAT TEST

The PSAT TEST, the Pre SAT, is the only test given to determine National Merit Scholars. Only as juniors is the score used to determine the scholars. Sophomores may take the test, however it is only for practice. The PSAT will be given October 21, 7:45AM. Registration will be in the main office with a fee for the PSAT. All juniors are encouraged to take this test.

University of Arkansas Early Admission

The University of Arkansas Admissions Team will be at the Fayetteville High School cafeteria, Tuesday, November 9th, 7:00PM-8:30PM. Seniors need to have completed the UofA application and have a copy of their transcripts and test scores. If they have a 3.0 GPA and a 20 ACT composite, the student will be automatically admitted. If the student doesn't meet these requirements, but is interested in going to the UofA, they need to apply. A representative from the University will be in the College and Career room at noon on Tuesday to answer any questions for students or parents.

FINANCIAL AID WORKSHOP

A Financial Aid Workshop will be held Tuesday, November 30th, 6PM in the FHS Cafeteria. The University of Arkansas Financial Aid staff will present the workshop. They will provide all information needed to fill out the federal FAFSA form that is required before one can receive any financial aid. All senior parents are urged to attend.

NATIONAL MERIT SEMIFINALISTS

Congratulations to the following students who are National Merit Finalists: Jessie Elledge, Preston Hart, Anna Holdorf, Jack Khavinson, Kevin Ko, Jamie Wilson, and Lucy Xiao.

These students took the PSAT last year as juniors and scored high enough to qualify for this honor. Again congratulations and best wishes in becoming a FINALIST!!!

Congratulations to Robert Adelman for being a National Merit Spanish Acheivement Semi-finalist.

We are proud of all of you and expect to see each named as a finalist.

MAKING COLLEGE COUNT

Seniors will be presented a seminar on 'Making College Count' on January 26th in the auditorium. Two sessions will be held, 8:45AM and 9:45AM. Seniors whose last name begins with A-K will attend the 8:45AM presentation. Seniors whose last name begins L-Z will attend the 9:45AM presentation. Parents are invited to attend.

This program provides second semester high school senior with critical information on how to successfully navigate the transition from high school and making the most of their college experiences. The program provides students with a 'success map' so that they can take steps through college to maximize their opportunities upon graduation. The program covers:

Thinking Long Term, Setting Personal Goals, Time Management, Academic Success Tips, Work Experience, Extracurricular Activities, and Seven 'Winning Characteristics' to Build in College

MAKING YOUR COLLEGE SEARCH COUNT

Juniors will be presented a seminar on 'Making Your College Search Count' on January 26th in the auditorium. Two presentations will be given: 12:50PM and 1:50PM. All juniors whose last name begins with A-K will attend the 12:50PM program. Juniors whose last name begins with L - Z will attend the 1:50 program. Parents are invited to attend.

This program provides second semester high school juniors with crucial information on how to conduct an effective college search. The program covers the introductory aspects of the college search process from visiting schools to college applications. It provides students with a working plan that makes the process of choosing a college more manageable. The topics discussed are: Maximizing the College Visit, Affording College, Student considerations, Gaining Admission, Personalizing the Search, Fine-tooth vs. Formula Schools.
