New Navigation System:

-- Our entire site has been completely redesigned for easier navigation. Go through the site by grade band or content with the new navigation bar that is on the top of each page.

i-Maths Investigations:

-- Students i-Math Investigations for classroom use. This one page contains a listing of all specially-formatted i-Math Investigations for classroom use. School computer labs only need to bookmark this one page to allow easy access to all our ready-to-use, online interactive, multimedia math lessons. All unnecessary navigation off the site and teachers notes (where applicable) have been removed from our student i-Math Investigations.

-- Netscape Navigator support has been added to all i-Math Investigations.
(We recommend Macintosh users continue to use Internet Explorer.)

Reflections on Teaching:

-- This new section has been added to the site to provide reflection activities based on video vignettes of teaching and learning.

Welcome page:

-- Our homepage now loads incrementally, welcoming our users to the site! We have placed all the most important links and buttons at the top of the page for quick and easy access.

Math Forum has information, challenges, and activities in mathematics across all grade levels.
i-Math - New page added to the i-Math Using Algebra and Discrete Mathematics to Investigate Population Changes in a Trout Pond - (description below) The new page completes the lesson and includes online hints to help students get through the lesson.

i-Math - Whelk-Come to Mathematics: Using Rational Functions to Investigate the Behavior of Northwestern Crows -In this lesson students use rational functions to explore the possible reasons behind the observation that northwestern crows consistently drop a type of mollusk called a whelk from a height of 5 meters. (Grades 9 -12)
i-Math -

Using Algebra and Discrete Mathematics to Investigate Population Changes in a Trout Pond - This investigation illustrates the use of iteration, recursion, and algebra to model and analyze a changing fish population. Graphs, equations, tables, and technological tools are used to investigate the effect of varying parameters on the long-term population. (Grades 9 - 12)

Web Resource -
The MacTutor History of Mathematics Archive will help students appreciate the human side of math by becoming acquainted with the actual men and women who have created it over the centuries.
i-Math - Exploring Histograms - A histogram is a standard way of representing a collection of data. The interactive statistical tool used in this i-Math investigation allows students to create their own sets of data and examine how various statistical functions such as mean, median, and standard deviation depend on the choice of data. (Grades 6 - 8)
i-Math - Linear Regression - This i-Math investigation helps students develop a conceptual understanding of lease-squares linear regression and correlation. (Grades 9 - 12)

i-Maths:

--Many of the i-Math applets currently run only under Internet Explorer. Netscape Navigator access will be added soon. (see above)

--All i-Math Investigations will eventually have both student investigations and teacher notes with professional development activities. For now, some have only one or the other.

Principles and Standards:

-- The final version of the Principles and Standards for School Mathematics (Standards 2000) will be released by NCTM in April 2000 at the NCTM Annual Conference in Chicago. Until then, this section of the Illuminations site links to the Discussion Draft of the Principles and Standards. Links to NCTM Standards from other sections will not all be active until the release of Standards 2000 in April.
