Technology + Learning = The Perfect Marriage

Overview

Fayetteville Public Schools have been the lighthouse school district for the state of Arkansas since it became the first chartered public school district in the state in 1871. Fayetteville has set the standard for excellence in academics, AP, athletics, fine arts, gifted and talented education, and technology—just to name a few.

Nestled in the hills of Northwest Arkansas, the city of Fayetteville is home to more than 70,000 people, as well as the University of Arkansas and the Razorbacks. A few of the world's largest and most well-known companies—including Walmart, Tyson Foods, and J.B. Hunt Transportation—have their corporate headquarters in the Fayetteville metro area. Many Walmart suppliers like Procter & Gamble also maintain corporate offices located in Fayetteville.

Our district serves 8,400 students with nine elementary schools, three middle schools, two junior high schools, one high school, and an adult education center. Fayetteville has been repeatedly cited as one of the most livable cities in America with a vibrant downtown, an arts scene, over 3,000 acres of community parks and lakes, and a dedication to trails and connectivity. The community is politically and culturally diverse and particularly fond of public engagement on all strategic planning matters.

With the help of Dr. Tony Wagner and the Change Leadership Group from Harvard University, the Fayetteville School District has begun work on an ambitious project to create a 21st Century learning system that better addresses the gap between how students are educated and the knowledge and skills they need to be successful in college, career, and life. This curriculum goal is concurrent with our design of a new 21st century high school based on small learning communities.

Join us on our journey through the district to experience amazing demonstrations of the true marriage of technology and learning in an environment where technology-driven data drives decision making, where wireless saturation is district-wide, where there is pervasive use of innovative technologies, and where teachers and technology work hand in hand.
