Your child's education is a responsibility shared by the school and your family. Engaged parents and guardians are essential to student success. FPS supports active parental involvement. We continually work to create and improve district and school programs and practices that enhance parental involvement and reflect the specific needs of our diverse population of students and their families.

 

Each school's Parent Involvement Program involves parents at all grade levels in a variety of ways. Each includes the following components of a successful parent involvement program:

  • Communication between home and school is regular, two-way, and meaningful.
  • Responsible parenting is promoted and supported.
  • Parents play an integral role in assisting student learning.
  • Parents are welcome in the school, and their support and assistance is sought.
  • Parents are full partners in the decisions that affect children and families.
  • Community resources are sought to strengthen school programs, family practices, and student learning.
  • Professional development opportunities for staff members to enhance understanding of effective parent involvement strategies will be sought.

 

Parent Involvement Events

"Parenting is prevention" by Milton Creagh was presented on October 7, 2008. The program consisted of straight talk about important challenges facing young people and families in modern society. Milton Creagh's bio:

 

  • Hosted national PBS series Parenting Works!
  • Hosted video based training program Parent to Parent!
  • Addresses over 200,000 kids and parents annually.
