School Resource Officers

Welcome to the School Resource Officers Program

School Resource Officers (SROs) are members of the Fayetteville Police Department who are stationed at the high school. We are part of a team of teachers, students, and administrators working together to solve problems in the school community.

We will certainly enforce the law when necessary, but our position in the high school takes on a much broader role. We serve as positive role models for students, and have spent countless hours "just talking" to students in a non-threatening, non-law enforcement setting.

SROs have intervened to avoid a number of fights, drug dealing near schools, dangerous driving practices, and destruction of private property. We take a primary role in investigations involving criminal activity related to the school, and we have had success in helping students through a variety of problems including dangerous situations in the home, drug and alcohol issues, suicidal thoughts, and harassment.

We are proud to participate in the process of creating a safe, secure environment where teachers can focus on teaching and students can focus on learning.

The G.R.E.A.T. Program is a two week, 60 hour academy for 5th - 8th graders. It is a school-based, law enforcement officer-instructed classroom curriculum. With prevention as its primary objective, the program is intended as an immunization against delinquency, youth violence, and gang membership.
